Mike Imondi – Owner Bio

Mike Imondi – OwnerOriginally from the Central Ohio area, I attended West Virginia University where I received  my Bachelors of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture in 1987.

After college I worked in a landscape architecture firm briefly before I realized that sitting in a cubicle nine hours a day looking at large-scale commercial plans wasn’t the path for me. I moved back to central Ohio and was hired in design/sales for a large landscape contractor where I worked several more years. Having the freedom to work directly with residential customers, getting to know them, and designing and overseeing the creation of their personal outdoor spaces was exactly what I had wanted to do.

In 1997 I decided to start my own business. I realized there was a market for people looking for design services independent of a specific nursery or contractor. I would provide a design that they could take ownership and control of, and use as a tool to implement the project on their terms. The sole focus of my services would be on design, and therefore I chose Landscape Design First as the name of my business.

In addition to my regular landscape design work, I had always been intrigued with the effects of well designed lighting in landscapes and outdoor living areas. At nightfall, these areas revert back to a blank canvass and offer a whole new design challenge and opportunity. I read and researched everything I could about low voltage lighting. In 2004, (confident in the techniques and available materials), I installed the first outdoor lighting system under the name Outdoor Lighting by Landscape Design First. I have since modified our company name as LDF Outdoor Lighting.

In 2015 I received my certification as a Certified Low Voltage Lighting Technician, (CLVLT #1505), by the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals. A certification held by less than 1000 technicians nationwide.

I take pride, enjoyment, and ‘ownership’ in every lighting project I install. The challenge of designing outdoor areas is that they are always changing. My background in landscape design has provided me with the experience to recognize and plan for those changes when applied to outdoor lighting.

Kevin O'Brien - Lighting AssociateKevin joined me this past year when he decided to take a new career path in something very different than what he was use to. When Kevin came aboard he was working as a personal trainer. It did not take long for him to understand what fuels my interest in lighting. Kevin is meticulous in his work and he takes pride in what he does. He will often drive by customers’ houses at night to show friends and family what he’s done.
